THE COMPLICITY OF PEOPLE OF THE ARTS IN THE CRIMES OF COMMUNISM. A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Promoting the culture of remembrance of the victims of political repression is a goal that can be achieved with the participation of teaching staff, scientific researchers, well-known public figures, as well as rehabilitated victims of political repression. Only in this way will the younger generation become aware of the risks generated by the Soviet totalitarian regime and the ordeal endured by the victims of this regime. At the same time, confusing situations may arise when certain persons who are presented, both in local histories and in national publications, as victims of political repression were, in reality, Soviet propagandists who justified the crimes of communism, thereby discrediting the status of victim of political repression.
In this context, it should be noted that the shelves of public libraries hold a great many books published during the Soviet period which still bear the imprint of communism within them. What is more troubling is that some of the authors of these “literary works” now present themselves as great defenders of national dignity, when in reality they were pseudo-patriots who took advantage of the Soviet nomenklatura and, at present, of the political conjuncture. Thus, the only solution for changing this situation is the desovietization of the environment in which we live. Only under such conditions can democratic, national and European values be promoted, and historical truth restored, only by unmasking the moral profile and the unlawful acts committed by such persons against their own people.
